About us

Durham County Cooperative Extension has the opportunity to support the exploration of a future Farm Campus in Durham County through the Feasibility Study and ongoing community dialogue. We don’t do this alone but in partnership with many Durham residents and stakeholders with dreams of this shared agricultural space. We are also excited to collaborate with the Durham County Open Space program to explore ways for the public to connect with the land.

Cooperative Extension is an organization committed to supporting our community through providing research-based education. In our work, we strive to promote economic prosperity, environmental stewardship, and an improved quality of life for all who live in Durham County. We believe that access to locally grown food, equitable opportunities, and a supportive and nurturing community are central to the well-being of Durham County and its residents.

Durham County Cooperative Extension is a partnership between two leading agricultural schools – NC State University and NC A&T University – and Durham County Government. Durham County aims to be a leader in sustainable agriculture, food security, and quality of life for its residents. Cooperative Extension supports that goal by working directly with the community to create an inclusive, educational, and well-resourced Farm Campus which reflects the authentic needs of Durham County.

Durham County Farm Campus hero

“I think food is where it all starts…It’s at the baseline of everything. Without the proper food, then everything, whether it’s education, whether it’s mobility, whether it’s just being happy as a person becomes second. The impact of having good food, proper food, fresh food, healthy food, it’s just a springboard to all of those other things.” — Moses Ochoa, Black Farmers’ Market
